Working with no less an authority on cerebral matters than Dr. Richard Restak, M.D., Montegrappa releases one of the most ambitious pens in its illustrious history. The Brain Pen is the result of extensive collaboration with Dr. Restak, the author of more than 20 books on the subject. Among his many positions are those of Clinical Professor of Neurology at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and residencies at Mount Sinai Hospital, Georgetown University Hospital and George Washington Hospital.
To create a pen that represents the complexities of the very organ it celebrates, Montegrappa*s designers drew inspiration from the brain itself. The link between the brain and the pen, with the act and art of writing serving as an extension of man*s ability to express himself while exercising the brain itself, encouraged Montegrappa to illustrate this direct intellectual and physical connection. Emblematic of this is the contrast present in the pen*s most basic structural elements: the top part of the pen is rich and elaborate, while the body is simple, acting as a parallel to a human*s body, where all the riches are in the brain. Adorning the top of cap is a cross-section of the brain, based on an ancient illustration. The cap features an overlay made up of neurons, with the pocket clip representing the spinal cord. The clip has a spring-loaded mechanism and its tip is lacquered in red or black, to differentiate the fountain pen from the rollerball.
Etched into the nib is the image of a sea-horse. This refers to the hippocampus, which is a major component of the brain of humans and other vertebrates. It belongs to the limbic system and plays an important role in the consolidation of information from short-term memory to long-term memory and spatial navigation.
The Brain Pen limited edition consists of: 1012 silver fountain pens, being the number of neurons in the human brain, which are estimated to be between 10 raised to the 12th power or 10 raised to the 13th power; and 900 silver rollerball pens, as the number of neurotransmitter (messenger) molecules released by a single synaptic vesicle is 900.
Accompanying every Brain Pen is a copy of a book written especially for Montegrappa by Dr. Restak.

He is known by many names: The Dark Knight. The Caped Crusader. The World*s Greatest Detective. He has reached the public through blockbuster movies, TV shows, video games, cartoons and millions upon millions of comics. Whatever the medium, Batman is proof you don't need superpowers to be a superhero...and the poster boy for what a bad childhood can do to you. Millionaire Bruce Wayne was just a kid when he watched his parents gunned down during a mugging in Gotham City. The crime would define his life, as he dedicated himself to becoming the world*s greatest weapon against crime: the Batman. Forget his Batarangs, Batmobile, or Utility Belt filled with high-tech weapons. Batman is the most feared superhero of all because he has pushed himself to the absolute pinnacle of human achievement. He is a brilliant detective who has mastered fighting techniques from the familiar to the esoteric. An Olympic-calibre athlete with a plan for every occasion and a solution for every problem, Batman seems always to be five steps ahead of his foes. But in his crusade against injustice, two questions always loom: How far will he go to protect the innocent, and will he sacrifice his humanity along the way? For over 70 years, this double conundrum has kept readers and viewers glued to pages and screens. Appropriately, there are 1939 Batman fountain pens and 1939 Batman rollerballs, the number signifying the year of his first appearance. All of the pens components are made of aluminum with a black anodized finish, except for clip and decorative rings, which are fashioned from ruthenium-plated brass. This choice of materials provides the pens with a dark gray hue evoking the color of Batman*s original costume. Its surfaces are engraved with bats in flight. The fountain pen terminates in a two-tone rhodium plated 18kt gold nib bearing the celebrated bat logo.
In addition to the individual pens, there are 500 sets that also include cufflinks and a wristwatch. These are exclusive to the box sets. The cufflinks are jet-black representations of the Batman logo in three dimension, with the bat shape cut out to expose a surface of carbon fibre. The folding grip carries the Montegrappa name. Based on the Montegrappa NeroUno watches, the matching wristwatch is powered by a Swiss-made Ronda quartz movement, housed in a 42mm stainless steel case secure against water ingress to 5atm. The case is finished in black PVD, with six screws securing the back. Embodying all of the mystery that has kept the Caped Crusader*s followers fascinated for over 70 years, the wristwatch is finished in black, with the flying bats pattern found on the pen traversing the bezel and the dial. At the 12 oclock position is the oval Batman logo in nickel, as are the numerals at the 3, 6 and 9 o*clock positions, the dot markers for the remaining hours, and the curved blade hands for the hours and minutes. A sapphire crystal protects the all-black dial and its nickel embellishments. The back is engraved with the Batman logo and the relevant serial numbers. Attaching the watch to the wrist is a carbon strap with a black PVD tongue buckle.

We are pleased to introduce the new Twelve Tribes of Israel Limited Edition Fountain Pen that was developed by Montegrappa exclusively for their Russian distributor Gourji known for their luxury jewelry products sold throughout Russia. To create the pen, the designers have hand painted their inspiration, drawn from a mosaic in one of the Jerusalem synagogues. It features the symbolic images of the progenitors of the 12 Israelite tribes.
The edition consists of a total of 111 pens (fountain pens and rollerballs combined, in both language versions). The design available in North America is done exclusively in the Hebrew language, as opposed to the version offered in Russia which is done in Russian & Hebrew.
Placed in the centre of the fountain pen’s silver band in the middle of the barrel, is the star of David, (the Magen David or Shield of David), an ancient emblem in the form of a six-pointed star, that, as the legend goes, used to adorn the shields of King David*s warriors. The 18kt Medium width gold nib is embellished with the image of a menorah, a seven-branched candelabrum, one of the most important emblems of Judaism. The box reproduces a fragment of the wall mosaic from Givat Mordechai synagogue in Jerusalem depicting the Twelve Tribes of Israel.
The fountain pen is cartridge/converter fill.

To pay tribute to Frank Sinatra, Montegrappa has fashioned pens that, from cap to tip, are imbued with several distinctive elements that signify Sinatra*s remarkable life and career. At the working end, the grip section of each pen bears a musical staff and a G-clef. The barrels and caps of each pen are finished to resemble the fabric of a sharp pin-striped suit, while the ends of each cap are engraved with the fedora logo used today by Frank Sinatra Enterprises to identify authorized Sinatra items and suggestive of the signature style of hat that Sinatra wore and made famous. The fountain pens in the series have blue accents in a nod to *Ol' Blue Eyes*, while the rollerballs bear orange accents reflective of Sinatra*s favourite colour. The pocket clips for each pen are carved in the shape of a classic microphone. A total of 1,915 fountain pens and 1,915 rollerballs will be released, each in resin with sterling silver trim, to honour the year Frank Sinatra was born (1915).

LOS ANGELES (APRIL 12, 2011) - Montegrappa, today announced the introduction of a new set of limited edition pens to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of notable Russian cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, flight into space. As the first man in space, Gagarins historic journey launched manned space flight and began an exciting period of global interest in space exploration. Montegrappa*s artisans have engraved the barrel with the image of Yuri Gagarin in bas-relief, bordered with an interplanetary motif, while the cap features the coat-of-arms of the USSR. The pocket clip, fitted with a rotating ball at its tip to facilitate smooth insertion to and removal from a pocket, is flanked by reproductions of Moscow*s monument to Yuri Gagarin, completed in 1980 and located in Gagarin Square. The fountain pen features a built-in piston-fed filling mechanism which provides ink to the two-tone 18kt gold nib with ebonite feeder.
Both the rollerball and the fountain pen arrive in wood presentation boxes. The lid of the box is embellished with a metal plaque bearing an engraved image of Yuri Gagarin along with a commemorative message in Cyrillic characters. The box for the fountain pen also includes a complimentary bottle of ink. Only 1961 fountain pens and rollerballs will be available. The Yuri Gagarin commemorative pen will have its world premiere during the Fountain Pen Hospital Spring Pen Expo.

Montegrappa's *Icons* series of writing instruments pays tribute to cultural giants, regardless of the fields in which their character and achievements lifted them to global awareness. The newest in the series honors both an individual who features prominently in any list of the 20th Century’s strongest, most influential personalities, as well as a milestone in Montegrappa*s illustrious history. Combining the two has resulted in a commemorative pen of significance and resonance. For the second pen in the Icons series, Montegrappa has chosen a person who – through the media of film – embodied all that is noble in the martial arts. At the same time, he opened the West to the disciplines of the East, while helping to establish martial arts films outside of Hong Kong, a genre that remains globally popular 37 years after his death. On the 70th Anniversary of his birth, Montegrappa is pleased to pay homage to the legendary Bruce Lee.Lee endeared himself to audiences as a role model who revered Chinese culture. In 1999, TIME Magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. Lee was known as the *Dragon* having been born on the day and in the hour of the Dragon in the Chinese horoscope. The image of the dragon was utilized by Montegrappa in 1995 and is reinterpreted on this special edition, with both the cap and barrel embraced by exquisitely carved sterling dragons. The piston-filled fountain pen is enhanced with an 18 kt gold nib featuring the profile of Bruce lee in a most famous position-- foot and fist extended, suspended in air.

Two legendary Italian brands are nearing their centenaries. It is thus both fitting and timely that Montegrappa, which has been producing superior fountain pens and writing instruments in the same factory since 1912, has been chosen to produce the centenary pen for Alfa Romeo, born in 1910. Italian qualities unite the two companies, both sharing the values that define Italian spirit, tradition and innovation. Another, almost transcendent quality unites them in that both companies have always insisted that their creations possess an elegance, a form that respects the function. The first fruit of this new partnership is an elegant pen that embodies the essence of Alfa Romeo*s history and prestige. The series created by the Bassano master craftsmen for this important anniversary celebrates and honours the glorious car manufacturer in each and every design detail. The date on which the Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili was founded – 24th June 1910 – is referred to by the number of pens produced in this limited edition series. Montegrappa has crafted a total of 246 celluloid and silver fountain pens. The exquisite artistic designs etched in low-relief on the body of the sterling silver version are inspired by the stylistic elements on the evocative Alfa Romeo logo (the Visconti snake, badge and vintage logo). The brand also appears in relief on the top of the cap, while the classic Alfa four-leaf clover is etched on the 18kt, two-tone gold nib, which is partially rhodium-plated. The nib feeder is made from ebonite, proving that even the parts hidden from the eye are selected and crafted with the utmost attention to detail. Cartridge/converter fill.
Even the packaging confirms the elegance and sophistication of these unique writing instruments, which have such a refined, distinctive design. Each pen comes with its own exclusive eco-leather case, with a pen pouch and an international guarantee certifying the research, passion and pure brilliance of the craftsmen who have produced this commemorative line for Alfa Romeo.

Montegrappa, an ambassador of Italian style and creativity, pays homage to Italy’s culture and tradition through a Limited Edition collection of writing instruments dedicated to Italian cities of art, those tangible examples of timeless beauty and a precious heritage for humanity. Squares, streets, and legends are what remain of a magnificent past. Skilled Montegrappa artisans use the ancient die-casting technique to produce each piece in this collection. Starting out from a sculpture patiently and meticulously made by hand by an artist over a period of months, the writing instrument – an authentic work of art – is produced with precious metals using the lost wax casting technique and later finished by hand. In honour of the year that Montegrappa was established, this limited collection is composed of 1,912 pieces: 1,000 fountain pens and 880 rollerball pens in silver and lacquer, and 32 fountain pens in a more precious 18-karat gold and lacquer version. Venice is an incredibly alluring city with a fascinating history. It was established in 421 by people living on the mainland area of the Veneto region who laid the foundations of what is considered one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Saint Mark’s Basilica is one of Venice’s most fascinating architectural monuments. Consecrated in 1094, it is certainly the most famous example of Byzantine architecture in Italy. It was a symbol of the Venetian Republic’s maritime, mercantile, and artistic importance, and its lavishness was the result of an incredible number of treasures that were spoils of war. Due to its uniqueness and beauty, Saint Mark’s Basilica is the star of this collection. Several details of its distinctive architecture can be seen, such as the four magnificent horses above the main entrance and the typical rosettes on its façade. The cap top is decorated with a die-cast lion, inspired by one of the centuries-old symbols of Saint Mark. The refined clip design is enhanced with a distinctive rotating sphere. The lacquer cap and barrel tip are in Venetian red to represent the strength and wealth of one of the most fascinating maritime republics.

The Montegrappa ICON series pays tribute to cultural giants. Launching the series is the man who revolutionized boxing on every level: Muhammad Ali. His talent, his skill and the path of his career introduced monumental changes to the sport, and the way it is perceived. Born Cassius Clay in 1942, the young Ali won numerous titles as an amateur, reaching international prominence with the Light Heavyweight Gold Medal in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. Before the age of 18, his record was 127 wins with five losses. As a professional boxer, Ali shattered stereotypes, his stance and speed serving him in a way not typical of heavyweights. With his good looks and unparalleled gracefulness, allied to quick wit and verbal dexterity that would inspire rappers a generation later, Muhammad Ali created not just an enviable record in the ring – he extended his influence beyond the arena. His stance against the Vietnam War, his conversion to Islam, his litany of eminently-repeatable quotes, his comebacks: Muhammad Ali became a cultural force beyond the confines of sport. In terms of his impact as a notable personality of the 20th Century, he ranks as an icon of the highest standing and influence. To reflect elements of his varied, eventful career, Montegrappa has integrated a number of characteristic details into this Tribute to Muhammad Ali Pen. The 18 kt gold nib sports the *raised arms* silhouette of the victorious boxer. Finished in white pearlized resin with a black stripe running its length, the barrel bears the colours of his boxing shorts. In order to achieve the desired black-and-white effect, Montegrappa employs a state-of-the-art material with unique properties. These include half the weight of glass of the same thickness, excellent optical clarity and light transmission properties, the ability to withstand temperature extremes at different altitudes and superb flexural strength for superior resistance to breakage. Equally important, as the writer enjoys physical contact with the pen, the material also proves warm to the touch. The end of the barrel completes the look with two circumferential black stripes, as found at the tops of Ali*s socks. The rolling ball pocket clip takes the shape of the stitching on Ali*s boxing gloves. The cap profile follows the arc of a speed bag, while the end of the cap is shaped in the cushion form of the World Championship diamond-encrusted ring worn by Ali and his corner team. Lastly, the cap incorporates the great man's signature, in black, with the legend *The Greatest of All Time*. 1942 is the year of his birth. He fought 61 fights. He won 56. His wins by knockout numbered 37. Guided by these figures, Montegrappa has issued 1942 fountain pens and 1942 rollerballs with sterling silver trims; 61 fountain pens with solid gold trims and 56 rollerballs with solid gold trims. Also available will be ana 37 pen *knock-out* edition, solid gold-trimmed and set with diamonds in the cap*s end-piece, each bearing a number corresponding to a specific opponent and fight, engraved with the fighter*s name, as well as the date and location of the event. Muhammad Ali has summed up, with his characteristic mix of modesty and boastfulness, the contribution to global culture that defines his place in the ICONS series: *I'll tell you how I*d like to be remembered: as a black man who won the heavyweight title, who was humorous and treated everyone right, as a man who never looked down on those who looked up to him, a man who stood for freedom, justice and equality, and I wouldn*t even mind if folks forgot how pretty I was.* The fountain pen is cartridge/converter fill.

Paulo Coelho is not only one of the most widely read, but also one of the most influential authors writing today. This Brazilian author has dedicated his life completely to literature. His book -The Alchemist- is one of the most important literary phenomena of the 20th century. It reached first place in bestseller lists in 74 countries, and has sold over 35 million copies, being the most translated book in the world (67 languages). As per Coelho…the pen is a musical instrument , and its sound can be heard when it touches the paper. Honoring Paulo Coelho is this unique limited edition of 1947 pieces (1000 fountain pens and 947 rollerballs), being the year of his birth, in sterling silver with emeralds, made using the fretwork technique that accentuates the refined contrast between the lustrous sterling silver and the black resin, with mother-of-pearl effect. The barrel of the writing instrument was inspired by Coelho’s pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, which was a remarkable moment of his life. The two emeralds mark the beginning and end locations of the pilgrimage. The route is traced by refined black lacquer.

The year of an epic crossing, conquest of unexplored land, and California dreams was 1849, the beginning of the Gold Rush. The prospectors, who would be known as '49ers, set off from every imaginable point on the American continent, traveling from the far East to the new West with hopes for adventure and wealth. Montegrappa captures this mass exodus in low relief engraving on precious sterling silver: Proceeding from the end of the barrel towards the cap, images of the pioneers' wagon trains give way to gold prospectors with their panning sieves followed by the gradual colonisation of California, the construction of gold mines, and the building of the railway. The end cap, junctions, and panels are all made smooth and rich with precious blue resin. Underneath the cap you'll find an 18k gold nib with exclusive Montegrappa ebonite feed on the piston-filled fountain pen. Presented in a maple wood box decorated with a limited edition silver plate.

In 1995, Montegrappa launched “The Dragon” , one of the maker’s most important Limited Editions above all among the exigent collector’s market. In 2005, Montegrappa launches “Eternal Bird”… the female part of the Dragon. The pairing of the Eternal Bird with its companion Dragon is underlined in numerous analogies: style and dimension of the pen, the same artist’s hand and a precious inkwell in a very Limited Edition.
In creating the image of the Phoenix, the artist has been inspired by a Chinese painting of the 12th century preserved in the National Museum in Beijing where the immortal bird appears. The sculpted figure along the body and cap represents a Phoenix, a mythological bird gifted of extraordinary powers who has counterparts in different cultures. According to every culture, this beautiful and colored bird is identified with the sun and is a symbol of power and prosperity. The sculpture is executed using the exclusive technique of die-casting. Precise copies of the original sculpture made by the artist’s hand are cast in sterling silver or 18kt yellow gold and then hand finished by the master jewelers of Montegrappa and applied to the red celluloid body and cap of the pen.
The fountain pen is enhanced with a distinctive 18kt gold nib and is available in M, F, XF, B. Piston Fill.
