The year 2008 marks the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Waterman Pen Company in 1883 and Waterman celebrates this occasion with a refined and contemporary fountain pen. The cap and barrel are palladium plated and the trim is silver plated. The barrel reflects a modern interpretation of the use of a filigree design, a technique introduced by Waterman over 100 years ago. In this new recreation, the metal is first hollowed out by master craftsmen to reveal the detailed design. Lacquer is then meticulously applied and then the piece is polished to reveal the contrast between the sheen of white metal and the dark brilliance of deep blue lacquer. The cap is finely engraved with a delicate design that is an extension of the barrel design. This limited edition is enhanced with a medium width, rhodium plated, 18 kt gold nib, cartridge/converter fill.

The Phoenix is one of the four gods from ancient Chinese mythology. They believed that the polestar is the emperor and four gods protect each quarter. It is said that once the Phoenix sings on the Paulownia tree, a wise king will be born. So the combination of Phoenix and Paulownia is an eternal motif of style and pride. The theme appears repeatedly in Chinese wall paintings and pictures created over the ages. With this special limited edition writing instrument, that power is yours. The Waterman Serenite PHOENIX is a special limited edition of only 120 pieces hand-crafted with the traditional Japanese Maki-e art form using Urushi lacquer. The artist's name and the serial number of each individual pen are marked on the pen using the maki-e technique as well. The Serenite's gracefully curved form is reminiscent of quill pens and blends well with the Maki-e art form. Cartridge/converter fill via 18 kt gold nib.
