RAVEN STEALS THE SUN by James Peter Johnson, an award-winning Tlingit artist and carver, born and raised in Juneau, Alaska. He belongs to the Tlingit Eagle Killerwhale clan. His strong ancestral history in Alaska led him to pursue the Tlingit art form. His late father, Franklin Johnson, first encouraged him to begin carving. Johnson has dedicated his life to continuing the Tlingit art form, honoring his ancestors through his work. The pen design portrays the traditional Tlingit origin story of a Raven bringing light into the world. Each Tornado has this Tlingit artwork silkscreened on the stainless barrel, varnished in a matte clear coating and finished with antique silver accents. The Smithsonian top ring is engraved with its individual number and then complete with the sun logo on the finial. Each rollerball is packaged in a commemorative tube with the Raven*s origin story on the label. ------------------------------------------------------ WOODLAND HUMMINGBIRD AND FLOWERS by Dr. Shirley Brauker, a lifelong artist. She began working with drawing and painting, then moved into clay and bronze work. She uses personal experiences and her Little River Band of Ottawa culture to draw from, and then carves stories into pots. Her *carved cut-out* approach, inspired by a dream, has become her trademark. She strives to combine the artwork and legends of the past with contemporary materials of the present, keeping story-telling traditions alive. Her Moon Bear Pottery is dedicated to the preservation of Woodland art and inspired the Retro 51 Tornado Woodland Hummingbird and Flowers. This Tornado has her design acid-etched onto the barrel and then plated in stonewashed copper with accents to match. The Smithsonian top ring is engraved with its individual number and then completed with the sun logo on the finial. Each rollerball is packaged in a commemorative tube that will store the pen when it is not in use.
